what's up for the weekend: jan 6-8

After some fairly frigid temps this week (understatement of the year), the weather folks are predicting sun and highs in the 50s this weekend. Perfect opportunity to get out and hit up one of many fabulous local events happening! Check out a complete listing on our calendar. Here are our top picks for family fun:

Let's Play for Shelley Fundraiser at Charm City Kids Club: CCKC’s play town is the ultimate destination for Baltimore’s parents & children. Enjoy a fully self-contained soft play area and run around in a small town where children can develop their language, play, fine and gross motor skills while having a great time. Specially designed theme buildings appeal to a variety of interests and ensure an entertaining and educational experience. From 10 AM - Noon on Saturday, your little one can play for just $8 and 50% of proceeds go to Shelley Goggans, a young mom battling cancer. Don't forget your socks!

Three Kings Celebration at The Walters: In partnership with Education Based Latino Outreach, the Walters celebrates Día de los Tres Reyes Magos, Day of the Three Kings. In many Hispanic and Latino communities, the 6th of January is set aside to celebrate the Christian belief in the coming of the three magi to offer gifts to the newly born baby Jesus. Known also as the Epiphany, the day is just as important as Christmas in México, Puerto Rico, Spain and many other Latin American countries. The Walters' celebration on this day will feature performances, art activities, a visit from the Three Kings, and Rosca de Reyes or Kings' cake. Whatever your holiday tradition is, head over to The Walters on Saturday between noon and 3 PM for this festive celebration!

Owl Moon: Join an Irvine Nature Center Naturalist on a moonlit hike in quiet search of Maryland's majestic owls. Before the walk, enjoy a reading of Owl Moon by Jane Yolan and meet one of Irvine's resident owls. Ages 8 & up. The night hike starts at 6 PM on Saturday and costs $10 for non-members. Members are always free!

FREE Admission to the American Visionary Art Museum for Bank of America Card Holders: On the first full weekend of every month, Bank of America and Merrill Lynch cardholders have the opportunity to visit – at no charge – more than 150 popular cultural landmarks taking part in Museums on Us. The AVAM is the only Baltimore museum participating, and it's a GREAT time to visit there because of their new exhibit: All Things Round: Galaxies, Eyeballs & Karma. Free admission for cardholders on Saturday AND Sunday.

Duckpin Bowling at Patterson Lanes: Yeah, winter is a great time to get your bowl on. And duckpins are perfect for the little guys! Open play times are available on Saturday from noon to midnight (although we don't suggest you take your toddler out of for night bowling) and 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Sundays.
