(cool) picks for the weekend: week 2

Looking for something fun (and free - - or nearly free?) to do this weekend? Here are this week's (cool) picks!

Artscape 2010
It's that time of year again! Artscape, America's largest FREE arts festival is BACK. For three days, you can enjoy musical acts, visual arts, dance performances, opera, theater, film, comedy, fashion, technology, DJ culture, and family fun. Did we mention it's free? The fun begins on Friday at noon and runs through Sunday at 8:00 PM. You can find the festival in the Bolton Hill area of the city, Mount Royal Avenue & Cathedral Street/Charles Street. Target is sponsoring a Family Art Park where your tike can release their inner artist, build with blocks, take a 45 minute art workshop (dancing, singing, acting, drawing, and more) or make a craft. Children must pre-register for workshop sessions. You can register y
our child for a workshop at the Kids Art Workshop Tent beginning at 11:00 Am each day of the festival.

Head out to the Carroll County Farm Museum on Saturday for their Summertime Fun Festival. It costs $5 for adults, $3 for kids 7-18, and FREE for the under 6 crowd. Fun games, famous Maryland seafood, crab picking contest, farmhouse tours and the Oriole Bird.

Cockpit in Court Summer Theatre stages professional-quality live theater at family-friendly prices. Each summer, on the campus of CCBC Essex, Cockpit in Court offers a high-energy children's musical performance of Snow White in the lecture hall of building J. You can catch a performance on Friday or Saturday at 7:00 PM, or Sunday at 3:00 PM. This is the last weekend to catch the show. According to the theater group's website, tickets are $8 for shows in Building J.
