Family Fun Day at the SARC Hot Air Balloon Festival: Bring your family to enjoy a day with the hot air balloons at the Harford County Equestrian Center. There will be vendors, entertainment, food and special Kids Zone. Event begins at 12 noon and concludes at 6:00 pm. Ticket cost: $5 per person. Kids 5 and under free. The best part? Proceeds benefit the Sexual Assault/Spouse Abuse Resource Center.
Life, Liberty & Pursuit of Happiness at the American Visionary Art Museum: It's the last weekend to catch this compelling and FUN exhibit at AVAM! The quest for human rights and the search for personal fulfillment, as proposed in the 1776 American Declaration of Independence, provide the starting point for this international exhibition. The American Visionary Art Museum is frequently touted as one of the BEST places to bring kids in Baltimore - - and kids under 6 are ALWAYS free. Adult tickets are $15.95 and kid tickets (over 6 and under 18 years of age) are just $9.95.
Summer Pops in the Park: The ASO will help Quiet Waters Park celebrate its 20th anniversary with a delightful FREE Labor Day weekend concert, featuring pops favorites and light classics. The Orchestra is led by Music Director José-Luis Novo in a fun program for all ages. This real crowd pleaser includes selections from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, James Stephenson’s Concerto for Cell Phone, and Raymond Scott’s Powerhouse, as well as some classical favorites such as Brahms’ Hungarian Dance No. 5, Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King, selections from Lerner and Loewe’s My Fair Lady and, of course, some Sousa marches. A perfect afternoon and evening spent with glorious music, food, and fun. Free parking, family friendly, alcohol free. The concert begins at 5:30pm. Arrive early and bring blankets or chairs for prime field seating. An opening performance at 4:00pm will feature Caribbean music by Sweet Lime & Passion.
Wonder Warehouse: Last chance to catch this fun-tastical exhibit at the Maryland Science Center! Expect the unexpected in the Wonder Warehouse—a showcase of live science. Set in a giant industrial warehouse setting filled with odds and ends, visitors will encounter science like never before. The Maryland Science Center’s signature hands-on philosophy takes total control of the room as staff and visitors work together to explore basic scientific principles in a scientist meets inventor meets Rube Goldberg meets YOU environment. In all, over a dozen highly interactive areas fill the Wonder Warehouse.
Pennsylvania Avenue Weekend Homecoming Festival: An annual event that tells the story of Historic West Baltimore's African American history from slavery to civil rights, politics, and entertainment. Friday through Saturday, there will be jazz, R&B, gospel entertainment and a parade of college, high school and community bands. Tours of the historic community home of Thurgood Marshall are also part of this phenomenal program.
Modernism at Evergreen: Baltimore's Billy Baldwin: The second installment in Evergreen Museum & Library's annual student-curated Modernism at Evergreen exhibition series spotlights the career of William "Billy" Baldwin (1903-1983), probably the most ingenious of 20th-century interior designers. Dubbed the "Dean" of American decorators by friend Albert Hadley, Baldwin counted among his international clientele fashion doyenne Diana Vreeland; CBS Chairman Bill Paley and his trendsetting wife Babe; and publisher and contemporary art collector Si Newhouse. Throughout a career spanning five decades, Baldwin introduced a more relaxed and practical interior design sensibility whose guiding principles could be followed by anyone, and which still are today. Focusing on the designer's life-long pride in his "Monument City" origins, the exhibition features furniture, textiles, fine art, and photographs that illustrate his professional evolution. On view as part of the regular guided museum tour.
