what's up for the weekend... february 11-13

Lots of fun stuff happening this weekend. Would LOVE to know what you're up to!

Tots Trails Opening at Port Discovery: The long-awaited, highly anticipated toddler exhibit is opening at Port Discovery on Saturday! Inspired by the latest research in early childhood development, this exciting and imaginative space encourages children to learn about their world, parents to learn about their children and the community to learn how innovative play educates our youngest learners. Infants and non-walkers will delight in exploring the padded, squishy “tidal pool” area, (separate from the toddlers) featuring sensory tubes and plenty of “lean-on” areas for parents to cuddle with their infants while toddlers can climb and slide through the Crystal Cave, crawl along the dune walk, and dig for fossils. Families can enjoy some quite time in the reading nook and all children will have access to age appropriate toys and books. We'll be previewing the event before the children's museum opens on Saturday -- so stay tuned to our facebook page for photos!

Disney on Ice: Princess Wishes: The ice skating spectacular is in town now through Sunday. We had some hesitations... And a serious fear of PDT (public displays of tantrums), but our experience at the show was fantastic. It earned high marks from the Bug. Scenes from the favorite Disney "Princess" musicals, but it's really a show for the whole family. Check out our review!

Milkshake Concert for Autism Speaks: A Valentine's Day Spectacular with one of our favorite kids bands! Spend Sunday afternoon at Rams Head Live in Baltimore with Milkshake, chocolate kisses from Moo, face painting, balloon art, cartoons, videos, flowers and other fun activities. Iced Gems Cupcakes will be there too! A shout out to John Waire from johnwaire ❘ photo who will be capturing the event for us!

SteveSongs Concert at Gordon Center for the Performing Arts: We told you all about the SteveSongs concert last Wednesday and three lucky (cool) progeny readers are taking their families for free! The PBS Kids host is performing on Sunday at 3:00 PM. Steve's catchy melodies and edutainment lyrics (his songs explain everything from gravity to kindness) will keep your tyke bouncing all through the concert.

Big Hands Little Hands Clay Workshop: This one-day workshop will explore the possibilities of clay for the pre-school age group. Adults will be paired with their young ones as they push, pinch, roll, squish and play with the clay. Process and product will be emphasized in this unique sensory experience, while the children build skills as well as a wonderful ceramic work of art! This class is for children ages 3 through 5, and adults of all ages. Class includes all materials and firing.

Baltimore Museum of Industry's Annual Confectionary Contest: Did you see Classic-Play's post on marshmallow building two weeks ago? This takes that concept to a WHOLE new level.
The Baltimore Museum of Industry’s 4th Annual Architectural Confectionary Contest takes place on Saturday. Entrants will choose a famous building in the city and then re-create it out of locally made sweets (think Goetze’s Cow Tales and Caramel Creams, Otterbein Cookies, and Berger Cookies). Contestants will be grouped into three categories: 12 and under; 13-18; and over 18. Special prizes will be awarded to the winner in each category. Judging begins at 1:00. Can you say YUM?
