farmers market finds: south mountain creamery

One of the things our family loves most about spring is the start of the Baltimore's Farmer Market. It's our absolute favorite place to shop for groceries each week. Throughout the spring/summer/fall, we'll be sharing some of our favorite farmers market finds.

This week's find? South Mountain Creamery's glass bottled whole milk.

I've had trouble getting the Bug to drink her milk cold -- or without a splash of chocolate in it. This milk? Well, she drank it cold and straight. That's about the best compliment you can get from a toddler.

The milk, locally produced from hormone-free cows, is priced comparably to anything you might find at the store. $3.75 gets you half a gallon of whole milk in a glass jar. You pay $1.50 refundable deposit for the glass bottle up front. Bring your bottle back the next week and you just pay $3.75 from that point on.

Too busy to check out the Baltimore Farmer's Market on Sunday mornings? South Mountain Creamery delivers. For just a $3.75 per order delivery charge, you can have fresh milk, cheese, yogurt, eggs, meat, honey, bread, coffee and more delivered to your front porch. Just be sure to leave a cooler out on your delivery day!

The Frederick county farm is open to the public daily. You can see the cows being milked between 1:30-5:00 pm and see as well as help feed the baby calves at 4:00 pm. Visit South Mountain Creamery's website for more details.
