what's up for the weekend: sept. 23-25

Tons of fun activities taking place in and around Charm City this weekend! For a more complete list, check out our calendar. Here are our top picks for the weekend! 

The Baltimore Book Festival: We told you this one is on our fall bucket list earlier this week! The Baltimore Book Festival features hundreds of author appearances and book signings, 100+ exhibitors and booksellers, non-stop readings on multiple stages, cooking demos by celebrity chefs, poetry readings and workshops, panel discussions, walking tours, storytellers and hands-on projects for kids, street theater, live music, and a delicious variety of food, beer and wine. AND IT'S FREE! Runs Friday- Sunday. 

Tea Collection Trunk Show at Wee Chic: Friday and Saturday, stop by Wee Chic- A Baby Boutique in Green Spring Station to peruse the spring 2012 line from one of our favorite designers: Tea Collection! The spring line is inspired by Bali. Get ready to fall in love! Pre-order your favorites, too. 

Crusoe Carnival at Kiddle Crusoe: Join Kiddie Crusoe for a Carnival of Family Fun! Lots of activities for the whole family including face painting, games of skill, games of chance, inflatables, shop with local vendors, raffles and prizes, balloons, special treats & more! 3- 9 p.m. on Friday. 

Fridays After Five at the National Aquarium: SPECIAL OFFER! Now through March, all basic Aquarium admission tickets are $8 for entry at 5 p.m. or later on Fridays. Dolphin and 4-D shows can be added on for $4 each. Great time to visit the harbor... 

Sesame Street Live- Elmo Makes Music - It's here! Elmo and his friends are LIVE on stage Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Lyric. Jenny, an enthusiastic new music teacher, arrives on Sesame Street only to discover that her instruments are missing. Jenny’s new Muppet friends quickly come to the rescue and discover ‘instruments’ they never knew existed…rubber duckies, trash can lids and even cookie jars. Catch details about scoring a discount on tickets over on Economoms... 

Worldwide Day of Play at Port Discovery: This Saturday, Nickelodeon is partnering with hundreds of organizations across the country (and the world, through our international channels), in hosting Worldwide Day of Play (WWDoP) events in local communities in celebration of healthy, active play. And as always, Nick will go off the air for three hours encouraging kids to get up, go out and go play. This year Let's Move! is a key partner and so is the Association of Children's Museums. The 2011 Worldwide Day of Play headquarters event will take place at the Ellipse in the White House, with the confirmed participation of the First Family. During the event, Port Discovery Children's Museum will lead creative movement activities including the Hokey Pea-Okey and Head, Shoulders, Peas, and Toes. 

Babies, Bellies and MORE Expo: This Saturday from 11 AM - 4 PM at the Waldorf School of Baltimore. Enjoy a FREE day of education, shopping and discovery; focusing on various aspects of Fertility, Pregnancy and Early Parenting Workshops and Demonstrations, Babywearing Fashion Show, Raffle Prizes, & Vendors, many featuring local, handmade, organic and eco-friendly products. 

Civil War Era Tea Party: Children and families are invited to join the ladies of the Maine Camp Hospital Association for a Civil War era tea party at the B&O Railroad Museum. Enjoy tea and snacks that were common in that period. Learn about social and home front issues and the work that was done for wounded soldiers by these ladies during the War. This program does not require reservations and is recommended for families with young children. 

Family Friendly Food Truck Rally: The food trucks are gathering again! This time at West Shore Park. Catch a fab bite to eat during this family-friendly event on Saturday from 1 PM - 6 PM. Proceeds benefit the Waterfront Partnership! Beer and Wine for the adult crowd, cupcakes and more for the pintsizers. Everyone will love the music! {{THIS JUST IN: Event CANCELED due to weather. Charlotte's Web Presented by Pumpkin Theatre: Classic story about a pig, his young girl, and his special spider friend has been delighting audiences for years. When Wilber the pig goes to the State Fair, he gets more than he bargained for! Charlotte the spider spins words in her webs to help spare Wilbur’s life, but what will it cost her in the end? Geared to elementary and middle school children, they hope you will join us for this treasured tale.  Various times throughout the weekend. 

Charity Photo Walk to Benefit House of Ruth: On Sept 25, Lux Amoris will be hosting a charity photowalk to benefit the House of Ruth. All who love photography are welcomed, from seasoned pros to camera phone users, and all ages are welcome. There is a fantastic prize package available to the winning photographers (first place alone has a prize value of over $3000!) Preregistration is strongly encouraged and can be done via the website.  

Stadium Place Community Football Festival: GEDCO and the Y of Central Maryland have teamed up to host The Stadium Place Community Football Festival. Spectators will watch the Ravens away game against the Rams on a jumbo screen, as well as enjoy many activities. 

Johnny Appleseed's Birthday Weekend at Milburn Orchards: Meet and pose for photos with Johnny Appleseed and enjoy birthday cake for him as well! Admission includes Hayrides, Corn Maze, Boo Barn, Milky Sway Tunnel, Farmyard Playground, Barnyard Buddies Zoo and more! Saturday and Sunday.
