round up: pick your own strawberries

There are few things I love more than freshly picked strawberries. And judging from the Bug sneaking them as I was assembling a Strawberry Rhubarb crisp yesterday afternoon (which subsequently became a Strawberry Rhubard Peach crisp because her little hand couldn't stay out the berries!), she's a strawberry fanatic, too.

Here are a few places that you and your family can get your pick-your-own fresh berries fix.

Larriland Farm
Located in Woodbine, Larriland Farm will open Wednesday, May 25, 2011 with pick your own strawberries. They are open from 9 AM - 6 PM Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and open from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM on Saturdays and Tuesdays.

Baugher's Orchard
Nestled near Westminster, Maryland, Baugher's Orchard opened their Pick Your Own Strawberries season this past weekend. They are open from 9-5 daily, but you want to call 410-857-0111 for daily updates. You even get to take a fun wagon ride into the field!

Lohr's Orchard
This Churchville, MD farms offers 'U-Pick-M' strawberries and sour cherries. Call ahead of time to get the best picking date information at: 410-836-2783.

Shaw Orchards
They expect to open for their first picking day on May 26th! The White Hall area farm says that strawberries will be available for pick your own or ready picked in their market. If you choose to pick, they have containers or you may bring your own. You will pay $5.00 each to ride their new wagon to the patch. Strawberries will be $1.50/lb. and your ride $$ will be credited toward your berries picked. There will be no refund, so pick lots. They expect the season to last about three weeks.

Weber's Peachberry Farm
Owned by the same folks at Weber's Cider Mill Farm, their peachberry location periodically offers 'pick your own' days. Keep an eye on their events page for dates. They are offering berry picking from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM TONIGHT (May 23rd) and tomorrow (May 24th) in the morning.

Butler's Orchard
Butler's Orchard open for strawberry picking TODAY! Swing by the farm in Germantown (ok, well, for us Charm City dwellers it's more a hike than a swing) between 9 AM and 5 PM any day this week, or over Memorial Weekend from 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM. You can also pick-your-own peonies. They even offer evening hay rides and have an onsite bakery.

Huber's Farm
Located in Bradshaw, Maryland, Huber's Farm's Strawberry Fields should be open this week for pick your own. The cost will be $2.00 per pound. The fields can close during the day, so please call first to check if they are open. BYOC - Bring your own container. The farms asks that you always check in at the produce stand before entering fields. Want the latest picking info? Call 410-538-7725.

Just went to Larriland Farms this weekend with my friend, her daughter and my boyfriend, and it was AMAZING. Picked apples, pumpkins, spinach, broccoli and beets. They're doing hay rides and there's even a haunted house and hay bale maze for little ones... I'll post some pics on your page in the next few days. Thanks for the tip, Heather!
