round up: area farmers markets

Seems like there are so many new farmers markets sprouting up -- which we couldn't be more excited about! Now there are even more opportunities to support local farmers and nab fresh-from-the-fields produce, flowers, meat, dairy products and baked goods for your family.

Hello, food revolution.

Here's a round up of the ones we've visited or have been dying to try. Did we miss your favorite? Add it to the list by leaving a comment!

Baltimore Farmers Market and Bazaar: Arguably the largest farmers market in the area and one we frequent. You'll find it under the Jones Falls Expressway Overpass downtown on Sundays from 7 AM - 12 PM. Although technically set-up for strollers, large crowds often make them impractical. Good idea to tote your tot in a backpack carrier (or by the hand) and bring an extra person to carry the goodies. There are a lot of prepared food vendors at this market, so go early and have breakfast, too! {{Fresh cuppa Zeke's anyone?}} Market runs April 3, 2011 through December 18, 2011. Check 'em out on Facebook, too!

32nd Street Farmers Market: Located in Waverly, this year round market is open on Saturdays from 7 AM - 12 PM. A great opportunity to nab everything from lettuce to brownies. We stumbled upon the 'bike pedal your own smoothies' folks here last summer -- tres magnifique. You're super close to our favorite Playground at Stadium Place, so make a morning out of your Waverly jaunt!

Druid Hill Farmer's Market: New! Every Wednesday from 3:30 PM - 7:30 PM next to the Rawlings Conservatory. Enjoy have fresh fruits and vegetables, jams, meats, plants and herbs. The (air-conditioned) Conservatory will be staying open late. So come out and support the farmers!

Fells Point Farmer's Market: After more than 200 years, the Fells Point Farmers Market has returned! It kicked off today and will run every Saturday from 7:30 AM - 11:30 AM until November 12, 2011. Did we mention it's waterfront? And they have a Facebook Page? Yeah, this market is pretty hip.

Green Spring Station Farmers Market: Happens Saturdays from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the Green Spring Station Parking Lot, May 21st though November 12th. One of our favorite summer Saturdays is strolling through the market, lunch at Stone Mill Bakery, ice cream at The Nut Farm and Creamery and browsing Wee Chic Boutique. Every once in a while Green Spring's market will offer pony rides -- we'll keep you posted!

Good Life Thursdays at Boordy Vineyards: A fabulous weeknight activity. Fresh goodies from the Farmer's Market at Boordy, wine tasting, vineyard wagon rides and live music. Clementine's prepares local burgers, pates, grilled seafood, and organic salads. Plus the Iced Gems Cupcake Truck is parked there. Yum. Anyone else thirsting for a taste of the good life? Runs June 9th through September 8th, Thursdays from 4 PM - 8:00 PM.

Towson Farmer's Market: Starts this week! Thursdays from 10:45 AM - 3:00 PM through November 17th. You'll find the market on Allegheny Avenue between York Road & Washington Avenue. According to the Towson Chamber of Commerce Website, the market brings top quality produce, flowers, wine, baked good, meats, eggs & poultry at affordable prices directly from the grower to the consumer.

Tuesday Market in Lauraville: There's a reason why Lauraville keeps popping up on the "hot Baltimore neighborhoods list" -- it's uber family friendly. This market popped up last year and has become so popular that they've moved to a new location: 4500 Harford Road. You'll find farm fresh fare Tuesdays from 4 PM - 8 PM beginning June 7th. Check out their blog -- where you'll also find recipes and ideas for preparing your haul from area chefs!

Baltimore Museum of Industry Farmer's Market: Headed to BMI? Go on a Saturday from 9 AM - 1:00 PM and get your grocery shopping done, too! There is free on-site parking for those who drive and plenty of benches for pedestrian neighbors to relax (according to The Baltimore Sun). This year, market shoppers will enjoy fun events such as live music, demonstrations, kids' activities, and giveaways.

Go Life/Cylburn Farmers Market: BRAND new. I don't know much about this one except the foodies are buzzing about it. Launched on June 4th and is running Saturdays from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM through December 3, 2011.

Mt. Washington Whole Foods Farmers Market: MTW Whole Foods is encouraging everyone to eat seasonally and eat locally. You can catch their Farmers Market on Wednesdays from 3:30 PM - 6:30 PM, starting on June 8th . You can also join their new MARYLAND’S PICK program for only $25 a week. As a subscriber, you will receive a bag of fresh produce each Friday from small, local farms. When you pick up the bag at Whole Foods Market Mt. Washington, the produce will be packed in a reusable red shopping bag and will include different recipes and pairing suggestions for the week.

Village of Cross Keys Farmers Market: Tuesdays from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM, June 7th through October 25th. Lots of parking and green space for a picnic! A great mid-day outing with the kiddos. You'll find it at 5100 Falls Road, right in the Cross Keys Shopping/Professional complex.
